Finally 3G technology is being taken seriously in Pakistan, it is really about time for it. The Governor of State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Yaseen Anwar has said that the benefit of the auction of 3G licenses in the country will attract more than a billion dollar. At least $850 is the target which is bound to be achieved.
The telecommunication sector in Pakistan is one of the most developed areas of technology which earns monetary profits not only for the industry, but for the country and the people as a whole. According to the SBP’s Governor, this could contain a potential fiscal slippage. If giving out licenses for 3G technology could bring about such positive results for the country, then one could only imagine what other technological developmental projects could do to bring the change Pakistanis so desperately need. There is a need to put such imagination into real planning and thought.
3G auction in Pakistan
With the auction of the 3G licenses, it is expected that better economic activities could be given space. With the foreign investment getting into the country, the government can earn a lot of profit through the sales of these licenses. The question then comes, will the foreign investors take interest in Pakistan given the political turmoil the country faces, both domestically and internationally.
The only option is to convince foreign investors that regardless of what go on one guarantee is that of a vibrant customer base that each of the telecom companies in Pakistan enjoy. With the market value intact, the foreign investors need not fear anything as they should only look for the growth of business they will find in this land.
