Mobilink Foundation has become the first and only telecom industry CSR function to be awarded this prestigious certification.

The PCP certification was awarded to Mobilink Foundation after an extensive evaluation that assessed the Foundation for internal governance structure, financial management and program delivery. The awarding of PCP certification is a testament to the diversity and outreach of the Mobilink Foundation and establishes the credibility of its operations.

Bilal Munir Shiekh, Chief Commercial Officer, Mobilink, highlighted, “The Mobilink Foundation is a cornerstone of Mobilink’s Corporate Responsibility initiative. The Foundation has conducted some of the largest and most successful humanitarian initiatives in Pakistan’s history with utmost transparency. I would like to thank PCP for acknowledging Mobilink Foundation’s endeavors to provide education, healthcare, environmental protection and disaster relief for the communities we operate in.”

Tanwir Ali Agha, Executive Director, PCP, added, “The PCP certification is a very rigorous process where organizations are evaluated against over 80 evaluation parameters. Mobilink’s qualification for certification shows that it has financial controls and good governance practices in place.”

PCP is the only Non-Profit Organization (NPO) certification agency authorized by the Government of Pakistan, with certification by PCP authenticating the credibility, transparency and performance of Non-Profit Organizations (NPO) through an assessment and validation process. This also includes verification of the evaluation by an independent certification panel comprising of representatives of SECP, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), members of media and prominent civil society organizations.

The post <a

With every starting New Year, telecom companies are coming up with bombastic innovations that are surprising their customers and competitors pleasingly. It has now become a war among all the telecom companies to achieve maximum level of customer satisfaction and competitive advantage, because today, in this highly competitive and fast growing era, it has become a crying need of professionals to attain high competitive advantage. Pakistan has a wonderful group of telecom companies fighting an ongoing war to do maximum for their country and its people. Among all these pioneers like Mobilink GSM, Telenor, Zong, Warid etc Ufone is said to be most customer oriented entity. Due to this feature, Ufone has always been a step ahead when it comes to the level of customer satisfaction.

Ufone Facebook Fans

Ufone started its facebook account for its fans in July 2009 and felt a huge applause by its fans being liking and posting more and more information on the page. The main purpose to create this fan page was not to achieve an award or something else but their mere purpose was to remain continuously in touch with the valued customers and post new and latest information. Not only information regarding Ufone charges and packages was posted at the page but even more useful information about our country was posted. The youth of our beloved country has always played beautiful and sincere role in all the economical affairs of the country but when I visited Ufone fan page, it brought tears to my eyes out of excitement when I saw comments and posts regarding Independence Day.

Ufone gained this huge popularity on social media network just because of its active participation in customer’s problems and showing deep concern in their lives. From July 2009 to 6th Dec 2012, Ufone has done its best and successfully received the reward of its hard work in 6th Dec 2012 when it got the title of first telecommunication company to attain the reward of having more than one million fans.

Apart from consistent hard work of Ufone’s work force, it has become possible due to unmatchable love of its customers. The way they showed their enthusiasm through their posts and comments is just unbelievable. Ufone is heartedly thankful to its customers for all their love and affiliation they have showed. Well, a mere is not enough to make it worth something; Ufone is again proving itself as best servant for its customers by making the celebrations of this achievement in a lush style. You might be wondering what that could be? It is a “thanks a million quiz competition”. In which a quiz competition would be held and 3000 winners would get surprise gifts. If you were still unaware of it, just go to the page and be the participant because Ufone is waiting for you to be the winner. J

The post <a

The percentage of mobile phone usage has increased bombastically during these years due to the expansive network of these cellular companies and their fast update of new and unique packages. Before the year 2004, mobile phone was a symbol of elite class and only rich people were seem to have their individual mobile phones. After the year 2005, it has now become a necessity rather than a luxury to have a cell phone of one’s own. Today even a child of 12 years has his own personal mobile phone and parents are not at all hesitant to allow their children for having their personal mobile phones. All of it has become possible due to one single fact i-e cheap and vast availability of cellular networks.

Cellular companies have made it extremely easier for middle to lower middle class person to afford his/her personal cell phone. The variety of packages provided by these companies make them able to it. During this course of business, quality of networks is also affected to some extent but still there are some networks that don’t compromise on the quality factor and still comes to the top of the list of the telecom industry. Two top brands of telecom industry include;

1-Mobilink GSM

2-Ufone

Evaluating the best among the above two brands is not a simple task so let’s take a look at the features and uniqueness of both of the above mentioned brands.

Mobilink GSM started its operations in 1994 hence it takes the title of “the first ever cellular brand of Pakistan”. Being the most initial operating body, it has the second most advantage of having largest number of customers but handling such a high percentage of customer retention was also not an easy task to take. The secret behind Mobilink’s successful customer retention policy is their selection of business class customer. Mobilink maintained the quality of its services by offering high valued packages that targeted the business and elite class people. The high prices of prepaid and postpaid packages not being affordable to lower class made it easier for it to maintain a standard and customer dealing.

Ufone, on the other hand also comes under the umbrella of top most telecom companies of Pakistan. Unlike Mobilink, Ufone was a bit late in starting its operations and due to this reason it was obvious that number of customers of Ufone would be lesser than Mobilink but it didn’t happen. Fortunately, Ufone succeeded in attaining almost equal market share as of Mobilink. The strategy behind its success is a unique one. While doing a SWOT analysis of Ufone portfolio, I came to know that Ufone’s strength is mere its marketing portfolio. Mobilink’s strategy of maintain a high standard seemed to lag behind the Ufone’s strategy of attracting the customers through brilliant advertisement and variety of packages targeting each and every class of people.

The post <a

Limited project. The project is for enhancing quality education and vocational training in Pakistan through Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Through this project, at least 500 learning centres will be established around the country over the course of the coming five years. it will cover 100,000 students and 10,000 teachers. This is also ADB’s first ever private-sector lead investment in an educational project.

Telecom sector in Pakistan already has a lot of potential of growth and production. Therefore, it requires similar level of human resource to support its progress. This TeleTaleem project will give it just this support. Under this technical assistance from ADB, the grant will be used to study gaps, issues and opportunities that Pakistan’s ICT has to offer. The project will also undertake defining better strategies, frameworks and marketing plans.

Telecommunication and internet technology has grown within the last decade very rapidly especially in countries like Pakistan it has come a long way. There is a chance of developing better infrastructures for mobile sector and internet accessibility.

Gadget sales have also increased than before and even rural areas can access internet through mobile devices and services provided by telecom companies, despite the fact that some areas even lack electricity supply. Since the government needs support of such projects as this granted by ADB, it is important that people take interest in these, especially the youth should try to enter these fields.

The post <a

There has been lack of communications between both the countries, not just politically, but also in terms of modern technology. After the telecommunication companies on both sides get proper approvals from their parent companies and boards, citizens will be able to avail the new connection.

Previously, India had accused spies from Pakistan who were caught through their SIMs from Pakistani telecom companies. Also, there was an issue about Pakistani mobile signals crossing over to India. It usually happens because of the range that a mobile handset provides or due to the coverage that a mobile service provider might have a range of, but when two neighbours hold animosity, it becomes a real threatening problem due to lack of trust and cooperation.

However, now the public has been allowed cross-border calls and certainly this will ease tensions and bring better cooperation. Both countries’ telecom companies can come out with packages of calls and text messages, and through this economic cooperation, political negotiations can be less burdened.

There are many families having close of kin living on each side of the border and with the mobile usage growing in both India and Pakistan, people can have their preferred mode of communication. Landline connections already exist between the two states, the mobile phones services exchange will be a new element.

The post <a

The Governor of State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Yaseen Anwar has said that the benefit of the auction of 3G licenses in the country will attract more than a billion dollar. At least $850 is the target which is bound to be achieved.

The telecommunication sector in Pakistan is one of the most developed areas of technology which earns monetary profits not only for the industry, but for the country and the people as a whole. According to the SBP’s Governor, this could contain a potential fiscal slippage. If giving out licenses for 3G technology could bring about such positive results for the country, then one could only imagine what other technological developmental projects could do to bring the change Pakistanis so desperately need. There is a need to put such imagination into real planning and thought.

3G auction in Pakistan

With the auction of the 3G licenses, it is expected that better economic activities could be given space. With the foreign investment getting into the country, the government can earn a lot of profit through the sales of these licenses. The question then comes, will the foreign investors take interest in Pakistan given the political turmoil the country faces, both domestically and internationally.

The only option is to convince foreign investors that regardless of what go on one guarantee is that of a vibrant customer base that each of the telecom companies in Pakistan enjoy. With the market value intact, the foreign investors need not fear anything as they should only look for the growth of business they will find in this land.

The post <a

A country where there are active bloggers with a strengthened voice to express their opinions, Pakistan is lagging behind in having a say when it comes to social networking platforms as less than a quarter of the internet users have joined any of the social networking sites.

There are many websites which are operating quite successfully from within Pakistan and have international reach too, but when considered and compared with the huge population mass of the country, it is a small figure. Even when compared with other neighbouring countries in South Asia, Pakistan lacks its presence on social media. According to a report, there are fewer than 20% internet users via mobile devices. This is interesting because mobile devices fare really well in terms of customer market and the telecom sector of Pakistan is one of the better ones.

There is a lot of Pakistani diaspora which has not been accounted for in this report and its survey, and they do make a large chuck of educated class in Pakistan, which is both well-informed and concerned for the country’s better future. But why there is such a little presence on one of the most effective platforms this world has seen is still a big question. This low level of social network penetration has to change real soon, because it is about time this happens.
<div

According to details PTA and FIA teams through combined efforts not only traced the exact location but also carried out raid in areas of Altaf Town, Tariq Road, Multan. One person running the setup was also apprehended during the raid. This success full raid, which was made possible because of continuous monitoring, shows the commitment and persistent efforts; PTA is putting in curbing the menace of grey traffic. The confiscated illegal setup consists of gateways, Tellulars, Switches, Routers and number of SIMs of different operators. Moreover, the campaign against illegal telephony resulted in blocking of more than 60,000 mobile SIMs alongiwth IMEIs. It may be added that PTA with the state of the art monitoring facility is observing the international traffic coming in to the country, round the clock. The aim of monitoring is to identify the illegal gateway exchanges and track the elements operating them. Such exchanges bring huge loss to the national exchequer as well as to the telecom sector. Chairman PTA, Dr. Mohammed Yaseen appreciated the joint efforts of PTA and FIA teams and also warned all those involved in the illegal telecom business to stop their activities, otherwise PTA shall take strict action against them as per the law.

The post <a

These MoUs would also boost mutual cooperation in the relevant fields and would enhance the industry academia linkages. Chairman PTA Dr. Mohammed Yaseen, Member Technical PTA, Dr. Khawar Siddique Khokhar, President CASE Dr. Abdul Khaliq and Vice Chancellor IST, Brig Imran Rehman attended the ceremony held at PTA Headquarters today.

On this occasion, Chairman PTA Dr. Mohammed Yaseen said that currently Pakistan has state of the art telecom networks while we are working on enhanced international communication links. We are planning to improve terrestrial links with Afghanistan, Central Asia and China which would help economy and flow of information in the country. PTA would provide data on telecom sector and expertise to CASE and IST, reciprocally the Universities would encourage their students to undertake research in different areas of telecom sector.

He said that under the MoUs, PTA would help CASE and IST in identification of research areas. Similarly, CASE and IST would cooperate with PTA on different issues of trade, business and economy related to telecom sector. President CASE Dr. Abdul Khaliq and Vice Chancellor IST, Brig Imran Rehman, also spoke on the occasion and emphasized on the need of telecom research in the universities. They appreciated the fast growth in telecom sector and steps taken by PTA in this regard.

Main objectives of these collaborations are to support research integrated activities and to equip future leadership with theoretical and practical training in policy and regulatory issues of telecom sector. It is expected that the related organizations would benefit from this collaboration as young experts would be conducting research in the relevant fields of telecom with guidance of the faculty and PTA which could be converted into entrepreneurship. Industry is working on Venture Capital for entrepreneurship activities.

It may be mentioned that PTA being an academia friendly organization has already signed MoUs with COMSATS, NUST and UET Texila. PTA has been working continuously towards encouragement of research activities in telecom sector and taken number of initiatives to establish strong linkages with educational institutions for the promotion of telecom research. PTA has taken significant steps that have received positive response from the all stakeholders. The National Forum for Environment & Health (NFEH) organized the award ceremony in Karachi on 2 July. The award has been instituted to recognize and promote organizations which make an outstanding contribution toward sustainable development.

As per NFEH, it was Telenor Pakistan’s vision and its implementation through contributions in the field of environment friendly policies and activities that made TP worthy of this award.

In their messages on the occasion, federal Minister for Environment Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi and Sindh Minister for Environment Askari Taqvi have congratulated the award winners and called upon industrial units to fulfill their responsibilities for improving environment. They lauded the environment friendly industrial units and said that government gives importance to those industrial units who comply with environmental laws and others should also follow these rules. Both the ministers appreciated the performance of National Forum and assured of their fullest cooperation in this regard. A national conference on ‘Environment Management’ will also be held prior to the award ceremony.

The post <a
