class="wp-caption-text">samsung electronics

Samsung announced today that it has successfully developed the world’s first adaptive array transceiver technology operating in the millimeter-wave Ka bands for cellular communications. The new technology sits at the core of 5G mobile communications system and will provide data transmission up to several hundred times faster than current 4G networks.

5G mobile communications technology is the next generation of the existing 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network technology. 5G will be capable of providing a ubiquitous Gbps experience to subscribers anywhere and offers data transmission speeds of up to several tens of Gbps per base station.

“The millimeter-wave band is the most effective solution to recent surges in wireless internet usage,” said ChangYeong Kim, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics and Head of Digital Media & Communication (DMC) R&D Center. “Samsung’s recent success in developing the adaptive array transceiver technology has brought us one step closer to the commercialization of 5G mobile communications in the millimeter-wave bands.”

Samsung Secures Millimeter-Wave Transceiver Technologies for 5G Cellular Networks

The implementation of a high-speed 5G cellular network requires a broad band of frequencies, much like an increased water flow requires a wider pipe. While it was a recognized option, it has been long believed that the millimeter-wave bands had limitations in transmitting data over long distances due to its unfavorable propagation characteristics.

However, Samsung’s new adaptive array transceiver technology has proved itself as a successful solution. It transmits data in the millimeter-wave band at a frequency of 28 GHz at a speed of up to 1.056 Gbps to a distance of up to 2 kilometers. The adaptive array transceiver technology, using 64 antenna elements, can be a viable solution for overcoming the radio propagation loss at millimeter-wave bands, much higher than the conventional frequency bands ranging from several hundred MHz to several GHz.

Samsung plans to accelerate the research and development of 5G mobile communications technologies, including adaptive array transceiver at the millimeter-wave bands, to commercialize those technologies by 2020.

Samsung Draws the World Closer to New Era of Mobile Communications

Samsung’s latest innovation is expected to invigorate research into 5G cellular communications across the world; the company believes it will trigger the creation of international alliances and the timely commercialization of related mobile broadband services.

The competition for technology leadership in next-generation mobile communications development is getting increasingly fierce. China established a government-led “IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group” for 5G research in February 2012, while the European Commission also plans to invest 50 million Euros in 2013 to bring 5G services to the market by 2020.

Once commercialized, 5G mobile communications technology will be capable of ultra-high-speed data transmission up to several hundred times faster than even the 4G LTE-Advanced technology due for launch later this year.

Samsung’s new technology will allow users to transmit massive data files including high quality digital movies practically without limitation. As a result, subscribers will be able to enjoy a wide range of services such as 3D movies and games, real-time streaming of ultra high-definition (UHD) content, and remote medical services.

The post one in every four patents that are granted covers phones and most phone patents are held by Samsung. Despite facing several lawsuits by Apple over patents and their legality, Samsung is still leading the way of having the most patents for its mobile technologies.

It received the largest number of patents last year and has become the world’s largest mobile manufacturer. The new analysis was done over seven million patents in the U.S. and Europe, the two places where most patents are registered. It was revealed through the analysis that around 72% of the patents are held by the U.S. and most of them are related to mobiles. By the end of this year, this 1 in 4 ratio will go to pass 25% it currently has.

In 2000, there were only 5% mobile related patents and within this decade that has changed. Mobile technology is developing very fast. It is generally believed that the iPhone 5 has more processing technology than was used to put man on the moon. How that happened is beyond any logical comprehension, but one thing is certain that it does show how much mobile technology is important and powerful.

Experts believe that the reason there are so many patents regarding mobile technology is because of the fear these mobile manufacturers have that another would use their technology and get ahead without proper attribution and benefit to their creativity.

This is also the reason why so many patent related legal cases are about mobile technology rather than some other technology. Mobiles are so much permeated into our daily lives and at times they seem to replace the need of having a computer. They have become mobile computers in of themselves.

The post <a

According to the research group IDC, the uber mobile computers will outsell desktops this year. The tablets sales are predicted to grow by 48.7% and the desktop sales will drop by 4.3%. The prediction for the next year is that tablets will start outselling even laptops.

When laptops first came, it was thought that by the end of the last decade, desktops will be out of production, but so far that has not happened. Now, the tablets are the new thing to for in computer technology.

But soon, at least desktops will become rare. So, for those who are building up new infrastructure of their companies, they should try to give their employees tablets, or even laptops to work on, and stop buying computer desktops. The profit from the sale of smart devices last year alone was $516.9 billion, it will increase to $814.3 within the next five years with 2.2 billion smart devices.

For the reasons of convenience, some users still prefer using desktops, mostly those from an old-age group. But, for the younger consumer laptops and tablets are not just a trend, but have become more convenient with the way they move around in this fast paced world.

The two giant leaders for smart device market are Apple and Samsung, both competing head-to-head to reach the top with unreachable indicators. It depends on what one wants to buy, but the technology from Samsung is more likeable than much hyped Apple devices, which are also unethically manufactured with child labour in Chinese factories.

The post Samsung showed off its Galaxy Note 8.0, which is an 8-inch tablet with specifications and features consumers will not be disappointed with. Samsung is choosing to call it S Pen. The first Galaxy Tab was introduced by Samsung in 2010, which created a huge market for its kind of tablets, mostly mid-sized.

Samsung has expanded its screen an inch from its previous 7-inch tablets that included Galaxy Tab, Galaxy Tab 2, and Galaxy Tab Plus. Galaxy Note 8.0 is said to be more in line in terms of its design with Galaxy Note II and Galaxy Note 10.1.

Other specifications of this model includes 1.6GHz A9 quad-core processor, a 5-megapixel back camera and 1.3-megapixel front camera, 2GB of RAM and 16/32GB of storage that can be enhanced with microSD cards. Also, the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean-based device comes with Wi-Fi, A-GPS and has 4,600mAh battery.

Samsung will be shipping Galaxy Note 8.0 around the world with HSPA or LTE support, all depending on the market. What is more fantastic is that consumers can make phone calls too. Galaxy Note 8.0 has multi-window mode, which is a new generation of Samsung’s S Note tools. It comes with such software as Flipboard and Awesome Note. The latter is premiering.

Tablet market experts believe that this version of Galaxy tablet will give tough competition to Apple’s Mini iPad. It is expected to be released in the market in the second quarter of 2013. The price range has not been announced yet.

The post <a

The case applies to Ferrari according to a new report by analysts at Brand Finance in their list of world’s most powerful brands. Ferrari has been named the world’s most powerful brand out of the Global 500 list of companies.

However, Ferrari is worth less and is much smaller when compared to the company that Apple has. But what Ferrari can now claim is its brand name. Apple comes in third followed by its tough competitor Samsung. The factors on which Brand Finance based its report is more than revenue generation as they also took into count net margins, average revenue per customer, marketing, and brand loyalty.

According to the CEO of Brand Finance, in their list they have included even those brands which have not much value in terms of their money, but they are still held in high standards because of their commitment to their products, services and consumers and most of all, they are liked by their target audiences.

Often Ferrari is just associated with automobiles, however, the company symbol can also be found on sunglasses, headphones and other items, which they make it accessible to even those who don’t even own a Ferrari car. According to business experts, when it says about the country to which the Ferrari brand belongs, Italy, is that even when facing a tough time in their national economy, they are providing business excellence.

The post <a

This also means that 10% belongs to other remaining smartphone manufactures, which does not consist a large share of contribution. Both Apple and Samsung present a huge challenge for smartphones. Their lead is dependent on branding, advertisement, quality and customer service.

Although, they have faced issues in all of these aspects, but despite this have come out on top ahead of the others. The report from ABI suggests that in the first quarter of 2012, both of these mobile manufacturing companies have given 90% profits to the entire smartphone industry. However, this also means a stagnant situation of other mobile manufacturers and also poses a problem for both Apple and Samsung.

If they do not continue with their performance, where would the smartphone industry stand without an iPhone or Android? But the experts believe that there is a still a way for a third strong competitor to emerge, especially making space for the new mobile markets. Nokia reportedly is not doing that well either. Its shipments also declined 40% this year.

When it comes to customer satisfaction, the general perception is that Apple and Samsung seem to be an unending phenomenon. Almost becoming part of the today’s culture and fashion trend in latest gadgetry, but Apple faces issues with its legal court battles on patents, both for and against. And Samsung is at the receiving end of these patent charges by Apple. Apple is also facing a lot of criticism for its labour conduct and working conditions for its factory workers, with human rights organisations raising harsh questions. All of these issues do pose a serious threat in maintaining the market share for both Apple and Samsung.

The post Android and Samsung

Sales of smart phones during the years 2011- 2012 have boosted up to an extreme level. While comparing the average sales of smart phones and feature phones, it has been revealed that the graph of smart phone sales has shown a continuous increase in the following year with no downfall up till now. Due to the emergence of tablets technologies, most of the businessmen and education oriented people have demanded more advanced mobile phones that can fulfill their needs of a personal computer within their smart and handy cell phones. During the year 2012, smart phone companies have been highly enthusiastic to gain market share to the utmost level.

According to the latest figures of Gartner, it has been shown that a percentage increase in Samsung smart phones is greater than all other smart phones. Although Apple, Nokia and Google phones have successfully taken a lead in their own markets but Apple and Samsung have taken the highest lead. And among IOS and Android, it’s undoubtedly said that Android technology used in Samsung smart phones and tablets is considered as the best one. Hence, if one says that Android and Samsung have outpaced IOS and Apple, it won’t be denied. The customer’s pull towards the Samsung Galaxy mobile phones including S2, S3 and galaxy notes cannot be rejected.

Samsung and Android average sales figures:

According to research, during the year 2012, the average sales of Samsung smart phones has been reported to about 97,956.8 thousands of units hence attained a market share of about 22.2 percent. This percentage is quiet greater than the percentage of sales made in the year 2011. Let’s take a look at the average sale in terms of thousands of units and percentage of market share attained by galaxy smart phones during the year 2011. In 2011, Samsung sales were reported as 82,612 thousands of units thus gained an average market share of 18.7 percent. The above details have shown a smooth increase in market share year by year which seems to further increase in the coming years.

Apple and IOS Sales Figures:

In 2012, number of units of Apple smart phones sold was approximately 23,550 thousand making an average market share of about 13 percent. In 2011, this figure was slightly lower than the following year that is, 17,295 thousand units and market share of 13 percent.

It shows that both Apple and Samsung mobile phones have been successful in attaining the customer’s attention but Samsung has taken the highest lead in the smart phones market. This bolstered sale of Samsung smart phones is mainly due to the inviting android technology used in them. Apple is lagging behind due to some minor and ignorable reasons but still Apple lovers would not shift towards any other option and Apple Inc. is highly conscious and well aware of how to compete with the market and retain its potential and existing customers.

The post <a

Apple then appealed this verdict wanting not to lower its image in front of the public by acknowledging that, in a way, it had been battling for all the wrong reason. However that appeal too was rejected by the court recently. Apple wanted to bank sales of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab in the UK, but could not convince its case properly.

The claim was made on infringement of design patents and the judge ruled in Samsung’s favour. All along Apple has been wasting its time and energy and also most importantly its image by waging these battles against Samsung, whereas Samsung despite being pinned down by Apple in this way is still faring really well. The court ordered Apple to take out advertisements in which it apologises to Samsung, but that has not happened yet.

Apple was also ordered to write an apology online on its official website and keep it there for six months, which now has been changed to only a month after the appeal. Apple was asked also to share this apology to Samsung in other news media outlets too, including the Financial Times, The Daily Mail and The Guardian newspapers, and Mobile Magazine and T3 Magazine within 7 days of the decision.

The court has even ordered on what font and font size to use for the apology. Since the news is already out about what had happened, it is better that Apple follows the court order instead of violating it, which might result in subsequent punishment and even fines.

The post <a

But every time, still something is out of place from where and how you wanted it. However, Samsung does not want to disappoint its smartphone customers in any way. It is now coming out with <a

It looks just the same, but does not has 4.8-inch screen like the current version.

Recently, Samsung mobile confirmed that it has created a smaller version, which will be of 4-inch. The version will be released first in Germany on October 11. Keeping with the demands of European smartphone customers, 4-inch was the size of the screen to go with. The Galaxy S III mini also has a 1 gigahertz dual-core processor, 1 gigabyte of RAM, 16GB of storage, and runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Being a smaller version, the smartphone is expected to be less expensive than Samsung Galaxy S III.

Already, the usual version has been much welcomed and received positive reviews from the customers and smartphone geeks. In future, it is expected that many other smartphone companies could adopt this two-version kinds of models where a customer can be happy to choose between them with features closer to their expectations. It suggests that the iPhone 5 isn’t even good enough to be a copy of the Galaxy S3.

Its headline — “It doesn’t take a genius”- prepares you for what follows. The Galaxy S3 is full of things the iPhone doesn’t have: Palm Swipe Capture, Shake to Update, oh, and NFC — to name but three.

And though there’s no doubt that the S3 is a fine phone there is one small element that Samsung might be overlooking.

People don’t buy the iPhone for all the features. They buy it for all those quirky, irrational, emotional, maddening reasons that make people’s eyes glaze over and their minds work like a blancmange clock. Samsung’s biggest problem isn’t that its phone doesn’t have some fine rational attributes. It’s that the brand hasn’t captured hearts.

There are no lists nor self-help books that can tell you how to do that. That does, sometimes, take a little genius.

Here is the advertisement in question:

The post <a

There are now four new colors in addition to the previously launched Pebble Blue and White colors.

First it was dubbed to be a human-centric smartphone and today the collection of new colours were inspired by nature. The Galaxy S3 will be made available in Amber Brown, Garnet Red, Sapphire Black and Titanium Grey.

Official press release:

“Elegant, intelligent and stylish, the Samsung GALAXY S III is designed for humans and inspired by nature. This design ethos is brought to life through the new colour variants, which are all derived from man’s relationship with natural materials and perfectly compliment the handset’s organic experience. The phone adopts a pure and clear material called Hyperglaze on the back cover casing. The material’s rich properties underneath create the illusion of dual colours, adding depth to the design as well as elevating the phone’s aesthetic look.”

However, you must do your research first on which colors will be available in your country as it was not described in detail on which countries will get all the above mentioned colors.

(Pictures courtesy: Samsung Tomorrow)

<a
