Since Apple first introduced the first-generation iPod in 2001, transforming both the portable music player and music industry, the company has sold an estimated 350 million devices.

On Thursday, the company unveiled the latest update to the iPod touch line, and it’s actually a bit of a downgrade: It’s the fifth-generation iPod touch without a rear-facing camera (it still has the 1.2 megapixel front-facing camera) and only two color choices (silver or black). It also has just 16 GB of storage.

Those trade-offs, however, also result in the lowest priced fifth-gen device: $229. The original fifth-generation iPod touch includes two cameras and starts at $299 for the 32 GB model (a 16 GB iPad mini costs just $30 more). Beyond those differences, though, the new iPod touch is identical in features and size (still 6 mm thick) to the full-featured fifth-generation model.

Apple argue that the new iPod touch replaces the fourth-generation iPod touch and noted that more than half of all iPods the company currently sells are iPod touches. Apple had nothing to share regarding sales or changes to the tinier iPod nano.

While Apple doesn’t break out exact holiday sales figures, Apple told us that the iPod touch sold well last holiday season. A recent Nielsen report said 36% of surveyed children wanted an iPod touch for the holidays.

On the other hand, the iPod touch’s broad appeal is clearly shrinking. Last quarter Apple reported that it sold 5.6 million iPods, a 26% drop year-over-year.

According to a recent research analysis by a UK-based research firm Enders, Apple and Samsung are the only two companies who make a substantial amount of profits as compared to others.

If we look at market share in smartphones, Google’s Android platform is increasingly dominant. The Android operating system is grabbing an ever-larger share of an ever-larger market.

To put this another way, looking at ‘smartphone share’ or ‘profit share’ or ‘platform share’ all tell you something about the industry, but all three metrics mislead you if you try to treat them as a way to see who’s ‘winning’, because ‘winning’ means different things for Apple, Samsung or Google. And in one way or another, all three are making out all right.

One thing is clear from these charts, though, is who is losing, and that is everyone else.

But Apple claims that more people listen to music on their iPhones than any other phone.

A 60-second ad, which aired Thursday night, was an evident of this claim. The Images in the ad show people grooving to music on their iPhones while practicing their dance moves, studying and even coming out of the shower.

The company recently claimed that 25 billion songs have been sold through its iTunes music store. However, there are other ways to listen to music on the device, including via apps like Spotify and Pandora.

In particular, the CEO, Tim Cook was very excited to share future projects and plans about products that Apple will introduce later this year and early the next year.

The start for Apple this year has been slow according to experts and the team at Apple have been waiting for the right time to spread their charm again. Tim Cook believes in the innovations that Apple offers the world and has said that his team is working hard to come up with some new interesting hardware, software and other services. Tim Cook nearly couldn’t seem to wait because his confidence in Apple has never diminished and furthermore he believes that Apple will regain its populist status.

Although Apple has faces a lot of controversy over its manufacturing and labour laws violations as well as facing such legal battles over patents and on top of all that, Apple’s new innovations are not exciting people as they once used to. But, Tim Cook’s ability lies in having to keep aside these major failures to do something better next time. With the way Tim Cook has made the announcement at the conference call, it seems that Apple’s rumour mills will again get to working and hopefully with happier news.

Every major technology company introduces and launches new models of their products each year, some do it twice a year. With the tough competition around, it is helpful to get people excited and waiting for a new product, which in turns helps to market it. Let’s see what surprises Apple has in store this time.

One of the best Jailbreak tweak that i have used is, changed the cellular name on your iPhone/iPod with the help of application CarrierPigeon. Now you might wonder why you need to change the cellular name. From My Point of view the answer is very simple Just For Change!

So let’s check it out how to change the cellular name. Before you start, please make sure that your device is jailbroken and it should be having IOS 3.0 or above.

Step 1. Open the application Cydia.

Step 2. In Cydia now tap ‘Search’ and write here CarrierPigeon.

Step 3. Open the application and tap on ‘Install’ Follow the instructions shown on your iPhone/iPod.

CarrierPigeon App

Step 4. Once the application is installed. Now go to Settings in your iPhone/iPod and look for CarrierPigeon.

CarrierPigeon

Step 5. Tap on CarrierPigeon and see the options in the application.

Step 6. Here you have three options Enabled, No Carrier, Carrier Name. Tap on Carrier Name to change the cellular name on your iPhone/iPod.

CarrierPigeon Settings

Step 7. You are now prompted to enter your Carrier text. After entering the text just go to home page and that’s it the name is changed.

You can follow the same steps to change the carrier name any time. To get rid of this you can delete the application from Cydia.

Apple New iPhone 2013

It is in the air that apple will release two new versions of iPhone after iPhone 5 in 2013. One of them is follower of iPhone 5 i.e. iPhone 5S having somewhat similar features iPhone 5 had, other is iPhone 6 which is totally a newer one with very attractive and cheap prices to cater the markets of India and china which are emerging speedily in telecom industry. It is also said that this new version will be without Retina display.

Recently an analyst, Amit Daryanani, belonging to RBC Capital Markets announced the release date of new model in his writing. According to him the iPhone6 will come to market in June or July 2013 and this new design will be of much less price and without retina display which is Apple’s specialty. Amit information sources told that AAPL is planning to launch simultaneously two new versions of iPhone i.e. iPhone 5S and iPhone6. The cheaper one will have same features as that in iPhone5 but will be in plastic casing and without Retina display. These two measures are taken to cope with speedily growing Smartphone market.

It has been reported by many analysts that Apple’s new iPhone models are going to be released this year and it has also been confirmed that iPhone6 will be without Retina display. All these rumors seem to be correct because Daryanani and all others have already given various correct information regarding apple in the past. Ming Chi Kuo, an analyst belonging to KGI Securities is the one who gave information about the complete range of Apple products in 2012. Now he is of the view that iPhone6 will be in the market for use in June or July of this year and this product will have the same features as iPhone5 along with 326ppi Retina display.

Introducing iPhone 6 without retina display is not supporting apple’s causes to lowering its prices because an older iPhone that is iPhone 4 which is now available free in US also has retina display. If the reason behind not giving retina display in iPhone 6 is to lower its cost then it will not do much,

Decreasing the density of screen will not reduce the cost to a great extent as Apple make use of hybrid of plastic and fiber glass for casing of their iPhones. Due to this iPhones are much light weight and slim then other smartphones having plastic casing but less costly then iPhone. Analyst KGI securities Ming-Chi Kuo has reported that iPhone will have aluminum casing so it will be heavier than its successors.

Ending all the rumors of retina display in iPhone 6 will have 326ppi retina display and screen size of 4inches. Moreover touch iPod will be available on May 1st. apple is planning to make a big iPhone whose announcement is expected in June at World Wide Developers Conference. These steps are probably being taken to cater its rivals in the electronic market.

An interesting statistics is that one in every four patents that are granted covers phones and most phone patents are held by Samsung. Despite facing several lawsuits by Apple over patents and their legality, Samsung is still leading the way of having the most patents for its mobile technologies.

It received the largest number of patents last year and has become the world’s largest mobile manufacturer. The new analysis was done over seven million patents in the U.S. and Europe, the two places where most patents are registered. It was revealed through the analysis that around 72% of the patents are held by the U.S. and most of them are related to mobiles. By the end of this year, this 1 in 4 ratio will go to pass 25% it currently has.

In 2000, there were only 5% mobile related patents and within this decade that has changed. Mobile technology is developing very fast. It is generally believed that the iPhone 5 has more processing technology than was used to put man on the moon. How that happened is beyond any logical comprehension, but one thing is certain that it does show how much mobile technology is important and powerful.

Experts believe that the reason there are so many patents regarding mobile technology is because of the fear these mobile manufacturers have that another would use their technology and get ahead without proper attribution and benefit to their creativity.

This is also the reason why so many patent related legal cases are about mobile technology rather than some other technology. Mobiles are so much permeated into our daily lives and at times they seem to replace the need of having a computer. They have become mobile computers in of themselves.

Another rumour abuzz for Apple’s next “iProduct” is an “iWatch”. Based on a report from the Chinese blog, TGBus, Apple is working along with Intel on a Bluetooth-enabled smartwatch. It is reported to have a 1.5-inch OLED screen. The iWatch is expected to be connectable to iPhone through low-powered Bluetooth 4.0. However, so far, iWatch will not be able to answer calls and use Siri.

Apple aims seems to be making tech gadgets more like human beings, or least the kind of connection the consumers have with Apple products is one of extremely attached. One of the goals Apple seems to be working on or trying to achieve is to introduce a product with which users can have a conversation.

The interface which will be conversation-based is essentially what Apple has tried through Siri, but it had received a lot of criticism. Siri technology or voice-command technology must be improved even further. Apple has not perfected it yet. Apple’s visionary makers want to enter a product line only when they can revolutionise it.

This has been part of the science-fiction writer’s dream to make watches which serves as remote controls to other devices. But for now, experts believe that Apple does not seem to be ready to enter into any such kind of a new product line like ‘iWatch’. So, it could be very well be introduced within the later part of this decade.

According to the technology site V3, Apple’s iPhone and iPad voice assistant, Siri is actually a security risk for businesses. The reason is because the data that is stored in an iPhone or an iPad, goes to a data center in Oregon. Apple had faced class action lawsuits against such invasion of users’ privacy and personal important information and continues to face more trouble.

Customers from around the world have complained about Siri’s “incompetence”. Hence, experts believe that Apple’s Siri is only good for casual fun and unimportant use, but not for anything serious. Because information important to businesses is to be kept confidential and no such risk with Siri is worth a shot.

It is amazing that there has been no action by the U.S. government itself against Apple’s misconduct on part of its products. Apple’s makers of Siri have admitted on a number of occasions that this has been deliberate on their part and that they could have made it to be private. Such an intended action should be legally charged.

But for some reason they chose not to. The ultimate risk from such a thing is from hackers who could gain easy access to such information and who knows where a criminal mentality lead them to. In order to protect themselves, IBM had blocked out Apple’s Siri so that information could be kept private. Could it be one of the reasons why Apple deliberately made Siri in this way? If other companies want their essential data protected, they better advice their employees to be careful with Siri and not to share any data through the voice-assistant.

At the Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco held earlier this year, few of the major automakers have expressed their interest in having Apple’s voice-driven Siri system installed in their vehicles. Though the idea of controlling machinery through voice commands is very old, but it has been made popular in recent years with the help of Siri, a personal assistant.

Many have complaint about Siri not being as efficient as depicted in the advertisements, however the automakers are the ones not to be deterred. They want the technology to be in their future cars so that it will help drivers in many ways while on the move. Hopefully, by the time this comes to be a reality, the Siri technology has itself been improved.

According to Automative News, this is something that automobile companies are seriously thinking about. So in the very near future, we might be able to have new car models with Siri installed. It will also give the automobile industry an essential feature to advertise about. The new installments will facilitate such things as making phone calls, dictating text messages and asking for simple directions. Something that an iPhone 4S does today, but while being in a car, you cannot do both the driving and functioning an iPhone.

Hence, major automakers like Toyota, General Motors, Honda, and others want the technology to be built-in. There will also be a hands-free option with Siri in cars. In the way people in the near future will be living their lives in the fast lanes, having such a technology installed in cars will be quite handy.

With the foreword of iPhone 5, Apple Inc. seems to fill up all the gaps that were supposed to be hindering its success in the tablet market due to success of Android tablets. Apple has brought forward a stunningly unique and remarkable device that would not lag behind the other tablets or smart phones in any regard. iPhone 5 which is far better than the previous iPhones has now become a challenge for other smart phones. Android tablets and smartphones have already been compared to this masterpiece of Apple and now it’s time to compare between iPhone 5 and HTC One X+.

Apart from the technical perspectives, a general overview of the basic contents of the two rivals would be enough to make a choice between the two. If I would be asked to choose any one of them, I would prefer iPhone 5 as I am already a user of iPad 2 and iPod. Hence I am very well familiar of all the specs of Apple products. For me, the most attracting thing in iPads and iPhones is their application store as now I am well familiar of a lot of applications. If I chose an HTC One X, that would be a complete new thing for me to use. So, one has to convince me if I had to buy and HTC phone. That is why; I am comparing the two competitors to make it clear to the customers that which one would be better for them.

As we all are very well aware of apple products due to its remarkable marketing policy, it would not be difficult for you to understand its specs. Now read carefully,

Size & weight; HTC is larger as compared to iPhone 5, measuring 134.4 x 69.9 x 8.9 mm whereas, iPhone 5 measures as 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6mm. due to difference in sizes, both the smart phones also differs in their weights. HTC One X weighs bit more than iPhone i-e 130gms and weight of iPhone 5 measures just 112 gms. Conclusively, HTC would be choice of those who prefer larger display and iPhone will be chosed by those who love smarter and light weight cell phones. Mostly females prefer to choose iPhone instead of HTC.

Display; HTC has an unbelievably astonishing display quality with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and 312 PPI. Apple, which has always been leading in this feature, is now lagging behind with a resolution of 1136 x 640 pixels at 326 PPI which is sharper as compared to 312 PPI of HTC.

Price; iPhone 5, as always, is being offered at a price of $599 which is almost $200 expensive than HTC priced at $380 to $439. This price discretion is mainly due to the great repute of Apple’s products and addiction that most of its customers have got due to its applications store. It all depends upon how they advertise their products to attract their customers.

Before the launch of every previous new iPhone, all the rumours were about it’s larger screens. So, finally we have the latest iPhone 5 with a larger 4.0 inches screen size. Apple’s latest smartphone iPhone 5 gets a bigger screen, LTE, and off course more power but will it keep the ultimate crown? Will it satisfy it’s users? Read on for our full iPhone 5 review to see if it can live up to it’s user’s expectations.

Design

The new iPhone 5 is thinner and longer than the older one. It has anodized aluminum back replacing the old model’s glass, the same old sandwich construction made it more discrete. Importantly, none of these changes have been forced for the sake of aesthetics alone, and in ensuring that they keep the taste of original iPhone. iPhone 5 is a little bit longer, 123.8mm now, versus the 115.2mm of before, so that it can accommodate a larger display. Its stretched appearance, meanwhile, is to keep the width of the display consistent which means it can still be comfortably used with a single hand, the thumb extending to reach the limits of the UI without demanding that the person holding it stretch or use his second hand.

The use of Aluminum instead of glass means the rear panel can be thinner, as well as more resilient to drops, and the change in profile maximizes internal space and emphasizes the waif-life 7.6mm thickness. At 112g it’s lighter in the hand, too, though the combination of the sturdy casing and premium materials means the iPhone 5 doesn’t feel cheap. In fact, like a good haircut, picking up the new model doesn’t feel like a drastic change or departure from what came before this one.

Apple offers two colors in iPhone 5, white & silver and black & slate. Each uses the same mixture of glass and metal and has color-matched beading between the antenna strips running around the outer-edge of the phone. They’re finished with a beautiful chamfered edge, which Apple says is diamond-cut. It’s unfortunately reasonably prone to scrapes however and after just a few days of relatively kid-glove treatment, this black review model bore at least one small scar. It would likely be less obvious with a white version.

As a whole, iPhone 5 is an amazing piece of engineering and craft and something you really have to hold in your hand to appreciate. Neither photos nor words can describe the accuracy of the construction and it’s precise design. Apple for instance, says it employs two 29-megapixel cameras during the chassis manufacturing process, to match together the very best pairing of aluminum housing and glass inlay out of 725 unique options.

Hardware

A somewhat larger exterior, hides a clean sweep of changes inside the iPhone 5 with little or no changes in bringing the new device up to par. Taking center stage is the Apple A6 chipset, a new processor of the company’s own design which Apple claims to be twice as fast as compared to the A5 in the iPhone 4S. Graphics performance has also been doubled, according to the company.

We can’t find a single app to slow the iPhone 5 down. All of Apple’s core software has been updated, more on which in a moment, to suit the new screen resolution of 1136 x 640, there was no sluggishness or lag. Apple’s freedom to customize software and hardware so that they’re perfectly in tune shows its benefits again, with none of the jitters that can affect even the most powerful Android devices.

There is no NFC in iPhone 5 – the latest wireless technology that is gradually showing up in Android and Windows Phone devices. That comes as a disappointment for anybody hoping to see contact-less payments integrated into the new Passport app in iOS 6, though it’s questionably whether NFC has reached any sort of tipping point in the mass market. Accommodating NFC hardware would presumably have made the iPhone 5 slightly larger, a compromise Apple is apparently unwilling to accept for something far from popularized yet.

To say this, Apple has come up with a phone that’s thinner and more flexible in how it can be used without sacrificing the features of the iPhone 4S. True, it doesn’t tick every possible box on the spec sheet but what it does deliver is a sensible compromise of day-to-day usability in both hardware and form-factor.

Display

Apple has slightly increased the size of the display on the iPhone 5 to 4 inches and 1136 x 640 resolution that have dominated every other model in the line. Prior to the release of the new phone, there were many people who argued that the 3.5-inch display was scientifically perfect, having been engineered to match the average reach of a thumb and a larger screen would create all sorts of usability problems but all of such assumptions are now being proven wrong by this new iPhone 5.

In other ways, a new treatment has been used in the display of iPhone 5 which Apple claims produces brighter colors as well as deeper blacks while reducing display thickness. In a side-by-side comparison with the iPhone 4S, it did look better a lot.

That’s not to say the iPhone 5 display is too small, as for many it’s the most they’d accept in screen evolution. It’s just that if 3.5-inches was the perfect one-handed size, 4-inches is a little too big, so if that’s the case, a little bit bigger wouldn’t make much difference and would give an improved experience to the apps so crucial to a smartphone user today.

Read Also: A Complete Guide How to Convert Micro Sim to Nano Sim For iPhone 5

Software – iOS 6

The new iOS is everything you would expect in an iPhone. Clean, simple, fast, and easy to understand. It is the very best that iOS has ever been. For the uninitiated, Apple’s iOS is designed to be all about simplicity, which is why you’re presented with a grid of apps that can be easily sorted into folders by long pressing on any one and dragging on top of another. With iOS 6 you’ve only got weather and stock widgets in the notifications bar, which is accessed by pulling down from the top of the screen to give information on apps or message that have come through.

Native iOS Maps and Siri are probably the biggest points of change. Google Maps is gone, replaced by an app of Apple’s own development, and for the most part it’s very successful. Being homegrown means Maps can integrate more consistently into the overall iOS experience, so now you get integration with the lock screen, showing the next step of your journey without having to actually unlock the phone first and if the iPhone 5 is sleeping when your turn is approaching, Maps will wake it up to prompt you. Unfortunately, it’s not perfect. The excellent mass transit mode in Google Maps has no counterpart in Apple Maps, so there’s no way to plan journeys that include bus, train, or other public transportation. Apple currently expects third-party apps to fill that gap.
Overall, though, this is still the same iOS you know, and all the steps you took to get things done in the last OS, or in iOS 4, or iOS 3 even – well those are pretty much the same too.

Camera and Video

The new camera on the iPhone 5 is absolutely stunning just like in iPhone 4s. it’s one of the best cameras we’ve ever experienced on a smartphone. The pictures from the iSight shooter on the back of the device look crisp, clear, and ultra-defined. The depth of field is shallow enough that you’re able to produce shots that look dramatic without verging into parody. Wider shots looked fantastic as well, and macro performance was excellent also color reproduction was a little bit blown out compared to other devices. It simply is the best camera on any smartphone.

The full HD video is also up-to-the-standards, capturing mostly shake-free videos that look just as good as still images. Video processing seemed especially speedy on the phone, and uploads on LTE were, of course, totally awesome. Compared to the clips produced by the iPhone 4S, the iPhone 5′s footage is smoother and more detailed, with less visible noise in darker scenes. The front-facing camera also supports 720p HD video recording.

Multimedia

The whole idea to make an iPhone in fact came from the success of the iPod, so music has always been at the heart of most iPhone design and it’s still good these days. It’s actually changed remarkably little in terms of interface and while that might be a criticism to some parts of the platform, in this case it’s actually rather good. There’s also a strong emphasis on video too which is again relatively unchanged although we’d like to see that updated in all honestly to incorporate some more advanced features.
As regards Audio quality, the iPhone 5 is close enough to the best out there in market. Sound is rich and balanced and the overall effect is clean, easy to listen to and isn’t muddied by any emphasis on certain areas of the hearing spectrum. You can access the player in a variety of ways, from the Music app on the home screen to double tapping the home button and swiping right.
The larger screen is a great thing for watching movies compared to the iPhone 4S, as it allows you to see the standard 16:9 videos and the way they were actually supposed to be viewed. It still puts black lines above and below the 21:9 movies but this is common across most smartphones, and it’s at least better than the ludicrously thin options seen on the 4S and older versions.
Unlike most other smartphones which are capable of at least playing an AVI file still, if not Xvid or DivX, it’s a shame Apple hasn’t followed suit. The screen quality is very good though and HD movies in particular look sharp and detailed.

Connectivity and Battery Life

The iPhone 5 is one of the best stocked phones around when it comes to connections, for giving all manner of options in one phone. We’ve already talked through the likes of 4G and the slower 3G connection speeds on offer, but there’s plenty more to be impressed with too. Bluetooth 4.0 is included, which might sound like a faster version of the wireless tech you’ve entertained for decades but is actually a decent upgrade, allowing you to connect to low power devices with ease. In terms of mapping, it may not be all rosy on that front but at least the connection speeds are strong, with both GLONASS and aGPS supported on the phone. For the uninitiated, GLONASS is a Russian system that rivals GPS, offering connection to reams of other satellites, and is necessary if you want to ship your smartphone into the country without a tax. It doesn’t matter to the consumer though, as they get easy access to satellites that mean a stronger connection and one that finds you in less than three seconds in most cases, which makes it a very useful tracking method.

One of the most amazing thing Apple has provided in this latest iPhone is that the battery life is not only as good as the previous phone but it’s actually a lot better even when using LTE data.
From a full charge, Apple suggests iPhone 5 owners will see up to 8hrs 3G talktime or 225hrs of standby. Alternatively, a full iPhone 5 is said to be good for up to 8hrs of 3G or LTE internet browsing or 10hrs over WiFi, up to 10hrs of video playback or up to 40hrs of audio playback.
In practice, with heavy use of both LTE and WiFi, push email turned on, media playback and streaming, some browsing and Maps use with GPS and iCloud sync active, one can easily take more than 5hrs 30mins of active use from the iPhone 5 and that is, with very heavy use. So, with an iPhone 5, you can easily pass through a full day without charging again .

Verdict

Is iPhone 5 a good phone? Does the iPhone 5 feel better in hand than the iPhone 4S? Is it faster and smoother running? Does it contain a more capable camera? Can it access data more rapidly while on the move? Does the combination of iPhone hardware and iOS software feel the most holistic and balanced of any Apple smartphone to-date? The answer to all those questions is a Yes to an extent but it all depends upon the requirements of the user and their priorities. Apple has provided a bigger-screen phone that doesn’t undermine key usability promises, delivered LTE without destroying battery life, and wrapped it up in a design that’s both much familiar and sharply regenerated.

The great iPhone 5 isn’t without its faults however. it’s a handset that suffers from an ageing OS that doesn’t look much different from when it was launched five and a half years ago. There are so many tweaks Apple could make to its OS to turn it into more of a powerhouse. And then there’s the lack of NFC, although we do see Apple’s reasons for omitting the technology. It’s not quite there yet in terms of market penetration for payments but the world’s largest network of accessories could definitely have made use of it for making ever cooler docks and cases.
Finally, there’s one major issue which is of the iPhone price. We simply cannot see how a 16GB model can cost £529 / $199, but to double the memory will cost an extra £70/ $100 with not other changes to the design. There are plenty of other models on the market that are the equivalent of the iPhone 5, such as the Samsung Galaxy S3, HTC One X or the forthcoming Nokia Lumia 920, and none approach the price of Apple’s flagship.
The fierce competition between various mobile OS is keeping the mobile industry moving and innovating. Right now, the iPhone 5 has the best balance of everyday usability and performance, without the distraction of functionality. It’s an area in which Apple surpasses all, and that’s the reason the iPhone 5 is one of the best smartphones in the market today.
