Tablets have become the latest product darling of the tech world, but their success is hindering PC growth.

According to the market research firm International Data Corporation (IDC), shipments of PC computers are expected to drop by nearly 8% this year, and by 2015 tablets will overtake the entire PC market, including both portables and desktop devices.

Tablets are expected to grow 59% to 229 million shipped units this year, up from 144.5 million last year. The estimation beats out other product categories such as notebooks. But IDC noted PCs will continue to serve a important role in computing, especially among business users.

Although Apple kicked off the tablet trend, low-cost Android devices have also fueled adoption. Prices of most tablets are expected to decline 10% to $381 this year, making consumers even more eager to make purchases. The tablet market has also ushered in more 7-inch tablets, which cost less, and continue to attract more consumer attention. IDC believes the smaller display devices will eventually surpass the 9.7-inch size first made popular by the iPad.

According to a recent research analysis by a UK-based research firm Enders, Apple and Samsung are the only two companies who make a substantial amount of profits as compared to others.

If we look at market share in smartphones, Google’s Android platform is increasingly dominant. The Android operating system is grabbing an ever-larger share of an ever-larger market.

To put this another way, looking at ‘smartphone share’ or ‘profit share’ or ‘platform share’ all tell you something about the industry, but all three metrics mislead you if you try to treat them as a way to see who’s ‘winning’, because ‘winning’ means different things for Apple, Samsung or Google. And in one way or another, all three are making out all right.

One thing is clear from these charts, though, is who is losing, and that is everyone else.

What was it that Facebook just needed to be the completely “cool” and “in” company for the trendy youth. Yes, a phone. Recently, Facebook has announced that it will introduce its very own Facebook Phone by April 4. There were rumours circulating around about this new introduction, and now Facebook has confirmed the hush-hush words. Experts believe that Facebook Phone might be “an Android OS tweaked to Facebook’s liking on an HTC handset”.

What it really be would be, will be totally public by the end of the next week. However, for the reasons of having some similarities to the already available brands and models, Facebook has been accused of stealing, but the company has denied any such charges. It was alleged that Facebook stole Apple’s iOS developers and through them got the technology on hand.

With such new additions like Poke, Facebook Messenger, and the Instagram, keen observers of Facebook are speculating this is just what it is, taking the best options and not calling them stolen. The Facebook Phone is expected to have a design of rounded edges, much similar to Apple’s iPhone just with a Facebook home button.

There were earlier such “Facebook phones” like HTC ChaCha and Nokia Asha 205 with prominent Facebook home button, that were not very successful. The display is rumoured to be 4.3 inches. The Facebook phone will have a 1.5Gz processor, 1GB of ram, 16GB of storage and a 5 megapixel rear camera and 1.6 megapixel front camera. So, more competitors for Apple and Samsung, however, Facebook will still have a long stride to make to even come closer.

The market for smart devices in China started growing a year ago and within one year has taken to the first position. Even though, this is the first time that China has overtaken the American market, but it is just with a slight numbers. However, if the Chinese market growth rate remains consistent as it is now, it will take lead with higher numbers.

The report is based on the study by Flurry, which tracked 2.4 billion anonymous application sessions per day from different parts of the world. Having done so, the company claims that they were able to accurately measure activity of 90 percent of the world’s smart devices. Just about a month ago, both China and the U.S. were head-to-head in the market share, but this month in February, China took the lead for the first time.

In January, the U.S. had 222 million active smart devices and China had 221 million, now China is predicted to have 246 million devices and the U.S. increase will take it to 230 million. The third country with the highest number of smart devices is the United Kingdom with 43 million and South Korea is fourth with 40 million active smart devices. The experts who have a keen eye on the trends of the growing smart devices market say that the U.S. will not be able to take back its top spot.

Based merely on the population, the U.S. cannot exceed more than 310 million smart device users. The only country that is predicted to overtake China is India with a population of 1.2 billion people. But that will take some years before we can see India on the top spot as currently there are only 19 million active smart devices in India.

DoCoMo, Japan’s biggest mobile carrier introduced a new kind of an Android smartphone that has transparent touchscreen. The whole idea of being transparent is central and exciting. The best feature is that it can be operated from both the back and the front sides.

It is amazing that this smartphone technology introduced earlier this year has not yet inspired other smartphone manufacturers to innovate something of a similar kind. Fujitsu has helped developed this latest technology and it does not distort the display at the front. This whole functionality of being operational from both sides has endless possibilities for users to utilize.

If presented in the market for the long run and not just on experimental basis, it might very well get successful. Because people do like things which are transparent and when it comes to Android, they would surely like to get their hands on one that could be their very own transparent smartphone.

However, there is still one issue and that is of making it appealing enough in its exterior features, besides the transparent touchscreen that it would get off. The screen is 2.4-inches and is not that bright as one would like it to be for visibility. An interesting thing is that the same feature of transparent screen could be used by other mobile-making companies and checked out how they make it successful. Different ideas might just be the thing to add to the variety that smartphone design innovation needs.

According to a report from Online Publishers Association, a research-based consulting firm, the tablet adoption in the U.S. has increased by 31% within this year. This means around 75 million users more than previous years. In the last year, it was just 28.3 million users and this indicates a huge growth in the tablet market. For the next years, speculators are even more hopeful and think that it will be 117 million tablet users in the next year.

Almost half of the internet users in the U.S. would then be using internet through their own personal iPads. This is good news for tablet industry and especially Apple, which dominates it, especially in the US. The experts believe that it would be difficult for Microsoft’s tablet to make any significant mark when it comes to market share for tablets.

For Android Kindle Fire, the situation is not that bleak as it has its due place intact. But Apple’s iPad has a 5% more satisfaction rate amongst users than Android. And the study also reported the gender distribution saying that women are more likely to use an iPad than a man. But very soon, iPads will surely replace most of the conventional computers and even laptops with users switching their preferred mode of internet access and data storage.

Sales of smart phones during the years 2011- 2012 have boosted up to an extreme level. While comparing the average sales of smart phones and feature phones, it has been revealed that the graph of smart phone sales has shown a continuous increase in the following year with no downfall up till now. Due to the emergence of tablets technologies, most of the businessmen and education oriented people have demanded more advanced mobile phones that can fulfill their needs of a personal computer within their smart and handy cell phones. During the year 2012, smart phone companies have been highly enthusiastic to gain market share to the utmost level.

According to the latest figures of Gartner, it has been shown that a percentage increase in Samsung smart phones is greater than all other smart phones. Although Apple, Nokia and Google phones have successfully taken a lead in their own markets but Apple and Samsung have taken the highest lead. And among IOS and Android, it’s undoubtedly said that Android technology used in Samsung smart phones and tablets is considered as the best one. Hence, if one says that Android and Samsung have outpaced IOS and Apple, it won’t be denied. The customer’s pull towards the Samsung Galaxy mobile phones including S2, S3 and galaxy notes cannot be rejected.

Samsung and Android average sales figures:

According to research, during the year 2012, the average sales of Samsung smart phones has been reported to about 97,956.8 thousands of units hence attained a market share of about 22.2 percent. This percentage is quiet greater than the percentage of sales made in the year 2011. Let’s take a look at the average sale in terms of thousands of units and percentage of market share attained by galaxy smart phones during the year 2011. In 2011, Samsung sales were reported as 82,612 thousands of units thus gained an average market share of 18.7 percent. The above details have shown a smooth increase in market share year by year which seems to further increase in the coming years.

Apple and IOS Sales Figures:

In 2012, number of units of Apple smart phones sold was approximately 23,550 thousand making an average market share of about 13 percent. In 2011, this figure was slightly lower than the following year that is, 17,295 thousand units and market share of 13 percent.

It shows that both Apple and Samsung mobile phones have been successful in attaining the customer’s attention but Samsung has taken the highest lead in the smart phones market. This bolstered sale of Samsung smart phones is mainly due to the inviting android technology used in them. Apple is lagging behind due to some minor and ignorable reasons but still Apple lovers would not shift towards any other option and Apple Inc. is highly conscious and well aware of how to compete with the market and retain its potential and existing customers.

Even high-profile public officials, celebrities and intellectuals are using social media as a tool to spread knowledge, information, awareness and form opinions and shape public views.

This new burst of social media technology has its both up and down sides. All major newspapers and news channels have gone online to cater to an online audience for their appetite for news. A major news magazine, Newsweek, has recently decided that it is better off conducting all its business online, rather than through a print version for the United States. Thus, it will shut down its print publication from December 31 this year.

It has been running in print for the past 80 years, but now will be available only through a mobile app and on the Web through a paywall. Newsweek Editor-in-Chief, Tina Brown, announced this news recently. Newsweek was founded in 1933 and has gained lot of attention for its journalism and also criticism for its biased agenda over the years. Newsweek also merged with a Web-only news website, The Daily Beast.

Newsweek is also available for iOS, Android, and Kindle e-readers. Due to this shutting down of its print operation, its staff will get laid off in the process, both in the U.S. and internationally. Newsweek had also faced financial difficulty and had been losing around $40 million annually and according to Tina Brown, it is because news consumers are heading online and leaving off expensive paper version.

At a press event in London today, Motorola and Intel officially unveiled the RAZR i powered by an Intel chipset.

The processor powering the Motorola RAZR i is a single-core 2GHz Intel Atom built on the 32nm manufacturing process. It supports hyper-threading as well, so its single-core architecture shouldn’t be an issue. At the front of the Motorola Razr i sits a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Advanced display of qHD resolution with Gorilla Glass for protection. Motorola also took a dig at Apple comparing the the RAZR i screen with the iPhone 4S and the iPhone 5. The RAZR i has 40% more screen per square inch than the iPhone 4S, and 15% more than the iPhone 5.

The 2GHz Intel Atom chip is so fast, that the Motorola RAZR i starts the 8 megapixel camera under 1 second and can take 10 pictures in less than one second. At the front, there’s a 0.3MP camera for making video calls.

Measuring 122.5mm x 60.9mm x 8.3mm, the RAZR i packs a 2,000 mAh battery under its back cover, which according to Motorola should be good for a full day of continuous use

The Kevlar-coated RAZR i will be launched in the UK, France, Germany, Brazil, Argentina and Mexico in the beginning of October. It should cost about £340/€420 at launch.

“Today is a big day for Android. 500 million devices activated globally, and over 1.3 million added every single day,” said Hugo Bara, Android’s director of product management, in a Google+ post. It’s not clear how many devices are replacing older ones, though.
Barra said in June at the Google I/O show that 400 million Android devices had been activated and that the rate was 1 million per day.

He also noted that the Jelly Bean statue, which commemorates Android 4.1, is back on the Google sculpture gallery that shows off the various dessert-themed versions of the mobile operating system. The statue had to go back into the shop for repairs shortly after its debut.
Android 4.1 ships with the Galaxy Nexus, a smartphone made by Samsung, and the Nexus 7, a tablet made by Asus, but not on much else yet.
Indeed, the transition to Android 4.0 aka Ice Cream Sandwich is still grinding along slowly, with the earlier Android 2.3 aka Gingerbread still claiming 57 percent share of usage. Gingerbread is looking more and more like Windows XP: an operating system whose wide use means developers will have to support old technology for a long time. Jelly Bean has 20.9 percent of usage, now finally increasing steadily after months of little movement following its 2011 debut. Jelly Bean is at 1.2 percent, according to Google’s measurements.

Smartphones operating on the Android OS from Google (Nasdaq: GOOG), the No. 1 search engine and the iOS from Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL), the world’s most valuable technology company, now power 85 percent of all new smartphones, IDC estimated.

A year ago, their combined share was only 65.7 percent.

In the second quarter, Android’s market share surged 45 percent to 68 percent, while Apple’s share declined 10 percent to 16.9 percent, IDC reported. Google’s gain came as more vendors such as Samsung Electronics (Seoul: 005930) rolled out more smartphones to compete against Apple’s iPhone 4S and older models.

Meanwhile, the share of BlackBerry developer Research in Motion (Nasdaq: RIMM) fell to only 4.8 percent from 11.5 percent a year ago, and the Symbian share declined to only 4.4 percent from 16.9 percent, mainly because Finland’s Nokia (NYSE: NOK) abandoned it for the Windows Phone OS from Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT), the world’s biggest software company.

Microsoft’s share rose to 3.5 percent to 2.3 percent, IDC reported. Microsoft plans to roll out a new version of Windows next quarter.

It is the common perception that app design is app design; it does not matter whether it is made by iOS or Android. But Hipmunk UI/UX designer and iOS developer Danilo Campos said that it is easy to develop an elegant and attractive iOS app as compared with Android app. This statement is made by iOS developer so definitely he will say everything in favor iOS. It is known to everybody that Android is used by many mobile companies like Sony Ericson, HTC and Samsung etc. but iOS is only in Apple so it is quite easy to manage one thing rather than handling and dealing with thousand of models. Different models have different dimensions and resolutions, these factors will definitely make development slower. It is seen that when you install different app than your mobile gets slow.

Read Also : Why Must Buy Android Device

This thing never happens with iOS or iPhone. Secondly these apps takes so much time in uploading ad than in getting started that many people get bored and they lose the charm in operating that app. Developer tools and documentation is also quite slow in Android. Apple is getting perfect day by day as it is working on the same base since twenty years while Google is getting started from scratch with Android. For competing with Apple, Google has to work too hard. On highlighting more defects of Android, experts say that your stuff in your set does not feel documented. This is really annoying for any user. Detailed features of anything are more easily implemented in iOS because of the wide variety of APIs and libraries available. It is also said that it is a tough task for Android to develop such touch and round glass design that Apple is having. Android is in many mobile companies phones and all are making different designs i.e. some are sliding, some are flip etc. so it is difficult to manage screen resolution in all and this thing affects the app working in return. Google is trying hard to deal with the market pressure. The new Android 4.0 is one of the Android devices. Even according to few people it is better than iPhone. But again this Ice Cream Sandwich is only present in 3% of the Android devices. Android training classes are now offered by Android. Design guidelines are also made for developers. iOS also have some drawbacks. Everything is not rosy in iOS. The best part of Android is that it gives you more liberty to do things that you want to see and have in your mobile. Apple has limitations. It gives you access to few app unlike Android. Secondly you can’t upgrade you iPhone applications as new features and app are in the new iPhone models only. My view is that if you want to have a good looking app with a single pass than you should go for iOS. But if you want to manage things according to your taste, than you should go for Android.

Sony Xperia Ion for AT & T, an Android with LTE has lot to prove, it’s not just a mid range Android, including a 720p resolution screen, 12 megapixel camera and a LTE it’s going to compete with Samsung S3 and the HTC One X But the problem is Samsung and HTC have already launched their mobile and they are in the market due to which they have captured the market and Sony Xperia Ion is using Android2.3.7 instead of Icecream Sandwich which is one generation behind. Whether it will be able to pull it of or not?
With a 4.6 inch screen Xperia Ion feels quite large when in hands and also in pockets with its 0.46 inch thickness. It’s definitely not a featherweight as it weighs 4.9 ounces (138.9 grams) which is similar to iPhone 4S. Its main element is the aluminum curved rear panel on which camera flash, speaker and the logo is beautifully laid out in symmetry. The top and bottom are of plastic and at the top there is a 3.6 mm headset jack while all the buttons are on the right side- volume, power and a camera button.
Xperia Ion’s display is just a beauty with a 4.6 inch, 720p LCD panel it won’t disappoint you. It has excellent viewing, sharp texts and great color schemes. The phone has a Bravia Engine setting, once you turn it on the image results are nicer, the screen images are enhanced.
Xperia Ion will run on the Gingerbread instead of Ice cream sandwich which is quite disappointing, as it has been launched in June just weeks away when the new Android is launched. The home screen is somewhat similar to stock Gingerbread with Sony’s own widgets and along with a function to float the widgets around the screen. As far as the software from AT & T is concerned, it has the usual apps like the AT & T Family map, live TV, navigator. Another app include is regarding messages, call logs and browsing ones. Over all the software is not bad but lacking the new Android software is kind of disappointing.
The Xperia has a 1.5GHz dual core processor and 1GB of RAM, along with a LTE ( Long Term Evolution) function, the processor works quite efficiently and games run good on it but still doesn’t compare the top tier on the market these days.
It has the 1900mAh battery, which gives quite a battery life. Even if you use the power hungry LTE the battery works for half a day, otherwise a full day can be carried out easily. Sony includes a Power Saver app which tells you how much of the battery is left and helps in the power management.
Xperia Ion has a 12 mega pixel camera along with a 720p front facing camera. The camera works well in good daylight but in low light it lacks the quality. But the colors are vibrant and accurate no need of any extra customization is needed. The front camera is quite good and the video recording at 1080p is passable.
ON the price it costs cheaper by $100 on a 2 year contract if compared by S3, on a whole the phone is a midrange gadget and is quite good and it’s all about compromise regarding mid range mobiles.

His management is always ready to tackle any problem that can be created by their competitors. First Apple was using Google for maps but then it stares down Google during their WWDC 2012 Keynote by releasing a new Maps app and better Siri integration. It is also said by them that it will bring an application that will help it in winning the war of smartphones. Digital folder has been introduced by Passbook. It will be used for for electronic tickets, such as boarding passes, movie tickets and even Starbucks cards. Using location technology the application will know where are you write now and then it will pull you movie ticket out when you will reach theater. This application is good on one end but bad on the other end because privacy will be no more which is the best part of Apple iPhones. Apple only focus is on developing software and applications rather than telling people when the new phone is releasing. Maps, Passbook, even Siri apps are seen as a new point in iOS 6 and will help iPhone 5 to look unique and more useful. Now the question is what does Passbook say about the smartphones? According to analysts and Apple, Passbook will also work with Near Field Communications (NFC) technology that was found in nearly every smartphone rumor for the past 3 years. Google is working now a day on eWallet that will allow users to rely on their devices rather than cash and cards for payments. This idea needs lots of working. The latest Android phone is Samsung galaxy S III that features NFC and work with googles wallet. Google wallet works in the same way as Passbook collecting digital tickets in one location. When Google wallet is paired with NFC it can be used to make payment even by simply tapping the device on a “PayPass” enabled device. Tim Cook mention Apple has 400 million accounts; each has a registered credit card. Apple ID accounts are the only way to register the new devices and help people purchases through either store. This is giving every user opportunity to make payment to Apple by tapping a button and entering the password. Apple is already using technology in its stores. It is giving user the liberty to go in the Apple apps store and find out easily what he or she wants. Like if a want a iPhone case, headphones or MagSage charger, I can find these in store. For buying I have to scan the barcode with my phone, enter the password and all done. The iPhone is associated with the Apple ID which is in turn linked with the credit card. If this rumor proves true that you can make payments with your iPhone 5 than you can easily imagine what will happen to Google and Android. They will face huge decline in their sales.
