For the first time, Rihanna has overtaken all other artists on Billboard’s Social 50 chart, passing Lady Gaga, who has held the spot for some time, and who has since fallen to the #5 spot, now also under Shakira, Katy Perry and Justin Bieber.

The chart ranks the most active artists on the world’s leading social networking sites – YouTube, Vevo, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and iLike – using a formula blending weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with weekly artist page views and weekly song plays.

Rihanna who has recently displaced Lady Gaga as the most-fanned female artist on Facebook, coming in at just under 41.6 Million fans, compared to less than 41.4 Million for the high-heeled self-proclaimed “monster” mom. While other artists like to refer to their fans as their army of followers, the Barbados-born singer thanked her fans on the popular networking site with an update calling them her “Navy”.

Overall, Eminem still tops Facebook’s fan count, with 44.2 Million tuning in to his status updates, with Rihanna appearing to be zeroing in on the rap artist.

The Social 50 emphasizes friends/fans behavior above other activities, followed by artist page views and song plays. The final ranking also includes a unique metric measuring the ratio of page views to fans.
