Most of the people must have wondered how a rock ‘n’ rolls guy like Steven Tyler get to be a judge on one of America’s most successful reality television show, American Idol. Well, he reveals the story himself. Steven was in a lot of hot-headedness with his Aerosmith band members and he was also looking to get clean and sober again after his recent struggle with addiction of prescribed painkillers. To get through, he simply asked his new manager in December 2009 to get him a new job and that he does not care what it would be.

Steven said in an interview with NBC’s Dateline that he never watched the show because he didn’t believe in anyone becoming an American idol in 16 weeks. But then thought to himself, what if he was to help choose them. For this thought in his mind, his fellow band member guitarist, Joe Perry, was quite upset because his whole persona of being a wild rock-star would be affected and he also didn’t want the band to be associated with that show.

But for Steven, he says that he is happy with the way his life has turned around being a judge there and reaching out to his children. People got to see a different side of him through this show and he is contented with letting the world know that he has a heart too.
