According to Gizmag, not only is Apple ready to release iPad 5 by March in 2013, but it is also ready with its redesign, should consumers want something different. The report was leaked by Japanese blog, Macotakara, which had also leaked similar rumours about Apple products. The iPad 5 is expected to be similar to iPad Mini in many of its external features. The iPad 5 will be 4mm shorter, 2mm thinner, and 17mm narrower.

Apple wants to manufacture a new product and introduce it in the market as soon as possible so that it can compete better against Nexus 7 and Surface. There are also rumours for a new iPad Mini with Retina Display that will begin its trial production next month.

About the authenticity of such Apple rumours one can only point out that they are more often false, with regards to release timing as well as features. But it is good to know that Apple is working on another generation of iPad and consumers can get a new one anytime next year.

Apple just took the wraps off its latest gadget: the iPad Mini. As the name suggests, it’s a smaller version of the company’s popular iPad tablet, with a screen that measures 7.9 inches diagonally.

The new model comes in both black and white. The 8-inch screen with 4:3 aspect ratio gives the iPad Mini a size advantage over 7-inch competitors. The area measures 29.6 square inches to 21.9 on a 16:9 7-inch tablet. It has the same resolution as the original iPad and iPad 2, at 1,024 x 768.

The iPad Mini packs an A5 chip, the equivalent of the current iPod touch. It has a front-facing FaceTime 720p camera, with 5-megapixel camera in back. It also includes Apple’s new Lightning connector, which first debuted on the iPhone 5.

At 10.9 ounces, the iPad Mini is less than half the weight of the full-size iPad. It’s just 0.28 of an inch thick.

The iPad Mini starts at $329 for the WiFi-only version with 16GB capacity. Higher capacities and 4G LTE options are available. Prices for WiFi-only versions are: $429 for 32GB, and $529 for 64GB. For the cellular versions, prices are $459, $559 and $659 for 16, 32 and 64GB, respectively. Pre-orders begin Oct. 26. Wi-Fi devices ship Nov. 2, and the cellular models will come about two weeks later.

The popular smart cover is getting shrunk as well for the new iPad, with multiple colors offered, including blue, green, pink and black.

WWDC 2012 is only a few weeks away. Thus, all sorts of Apple software rumors are starting to make the rounds. Today, the Wall Street Journal is reporting that the iCloud will gain some new features, most notably, a way to share galleries of photos with other iCloud users. These photos would be open to comments by other iCloud users you share with and would be separate sets outside of a user’s standard Photo Stream, which currently stores the last 1000 photos you’ve shot with your iOS device or added via your computer. It is also stated that the web interface for iCloud will sync reminders and notes from iOS.

The inclusion of notes and reminders on iCloud is a necessary update but the revamped photo sharing features would mark a bit of a change of pace for Apple after the shutting down in a few weeks of MobileMe, Apple’s cloud solution prior to iCloud.

Apple has agreed to pay Chinese Company Shenzhen Proview Technology $60 million for the name “iPad,” The New York Times reports.

Apple has bought the iPad name in various countries from a Proview affiliate in Taiwan for $55,000 in 2009. However, a Chinese court ruled in December that Proview, which registered the iPad trademark in China back in 2001, still owns the name in China.

Proview had hoped to get as much as $400 million from Apple, but it agreed to settle for $60 million in order to pay its debts.

“The iPad dispute resolution is ended,” the Guangdong High People’s Court said in a statement, as Apple has already transferred the funds to the Court, apparently relieved that this issue is finally resolved.

Apple’s new iPad received much hype before its release and after its launch in the market earlier this month, it had been sold really quickly as is often the case with anything new with Apple. Within its first week of release, more than three million units were sold in ten countries, including the U.S. and Australia. But since then, the picture has not been good about the new iPad. Customers have started complaining about getting heated up quickly and charging very slow.

The problem that the Australian government has with Apple’s labeling is that it does not specify the 4G networks the device would work on. Hence, Australian government wants Apple to correct the labeling before it takes serious action in court against this misleading act. Also, before this product arrives here in Pakistan, a company selling Apple’s product should make sure that it runs along with the networks here.

Day by day, Apple’s products are losing their pristine appeal of being so reliable as Apple is facing lawsuits not just for patents, but also in terms of the environment, labour laws and now product quality and misleading advertisements. Somebody needs to run Apple right.
