The California-based senior got to meet Mr Zuckberg and Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg Park when she visited Facebook’s Menlo Park headquarters yesterday. As it turns out, Florence lives in Menlo Park.
Florence, whose profile says she’s looking for a good book to read, graduated from Occidental College in 1932 and began using Facebook back in 2009.
“Honored to meet Florence Detlor, who at 101 years old is the oldest registered Facebook user. Thank you for visiting us Florence!,” Sandberg later posted on her page.
That photo has already garnered 5721 likes and countless friend requests from Facebook users, but it seems Florence may have some competition as the oldest Facebook user.
Some users have posted comments about their grandparents, no doubt eyeing off Florence’s title.
While people in their 20s have made Facebook cool, you may be surprised to know that the fastest growing demographic on the social networking website is women over the age of 55.
Older users are equally savvy when it comes to Facebook etiquette, if Florence’s posts are anything to go by.
“I am cleaning up my friend list. If you know me and want to stay on my friend list, say yes; if you don’t mind if I remove you, say no. No offense intended,” she recently wrote on her wall.
“August 5: Isn!t it good that we don!t have to face politics on Facebook???” said Florence in another post, as she clearly enjoys being at arm’s length from some things via the web.
In between posts about the weather and garage sales, the 101-year-old also officially liked Sony’s Dash tablet.
