The Sony Xperia U is the new competitor for the HTC One X smartphone, with 1GHz dual-core SoC it’s coping up but shrinks the RAM to 512MB is a disappointment. The display size is 3.5 inches and Sony has made it more personalizable, its transparent bar has made it more elegant. But Sony is still finding it hard to let go of the Gingerbread rather then using Android 4.0, but whether still Sony has got it all? lets have a Sony Xperia U Review.

Specification of Sony Xperia U

Xperia U the most pleasent looking device on the market, on picking up the device the fingertips will be treated to comfortable. At 3.9 ounces or 110g its lighter than your average smartphone. Its a pure quality device and the volume and power buttons are just superb to click. The dedicated two stage camera button is also excellent in usage. Its all black facade and is only broken by the transparent band that sits beneath the screen. The front of the device is of durable black plastic. Sliding off the removable back reveals the  1320mAh battery and a space for a standard SIM card and no slot for micro SD as there is 4GB of internal memory. The transparent segment includes icons for back, home and  menu buttons, actually the transparent bar lightens up along with the theme and there are 7 pre determined colors to choose from. But on the back its the same old a camera, LED flash and a sony logo along with an off center loud speaker. Its a little bit thick at  12mm.

Sony has given this model with 3.5 inch display screen which offers 280 pixels per inch, which is quite good. The colors are vivid, the viewing angles and the daylight visibility is top notch. But the display is too small which the main  problem, but overall in such price its a full on treat. Furthermore its a 16:9 aspect ratio but at this screen is quite off the chart.

The Xperia’s U 5 megapixel camera is not that good but carries out the work, the daylight experience  are clear and crisp. But the Sony’s software is quite good and is compatible with the camera. The phones 720p video is handled quite well and the exposure is swift, the auto focus can get little confused at times. The front facing VGA camera is only good for video chat only.

The Sony software is really effective, even though they are not using the Android 4.0. It has pre loaded software’s such as Tim escape, Track Id and other music apps. The theme and the color of the transparent bar changes, basically the theme dictates the color. Its quite fun to watch the colors change and its kind of a new thing on the block. But the Gingerbread is two generations behind but Sony has added the new apps and widgets which enhances the look.

The Xperia U comes with 1GHz dual-core ST-Ericsson Nova Thor U8500 processor and Mali-400 GPU, the performance is quite good with such specs and works fast and efficiently. Swiping through home screens is quite fast and lag free. The battery life is quite amazing and lasts for 5 hours  which is just superb.

If you are searching for an Android device which is fast and you don’t go for the design then Sony Xperia U is for you.
